The Story of Realty Way


Realty Way was founded by Mitra and Tom Katirai – a husband and wife team with 59 years of combined experience in the real estate industry who prior to founding the firm had won a string of accolades and awards.


Mitra Katirai started her real estate career 27 year ago. She quickly rose to the top ranks of Toronto’s real estate agents, and in the year 2000 was ranked Number 1 Agent Across Canada for the HomeLife Organization one of the largest real estate organizations in Canada.


Tom started his real estate career 32 years ago as a commercial real estate agent. He quickly developed a stellar reputation for advising some of Canada’s largest investors on their real estate acquisitions.


Following these achievements, the couple decided to found their own brokerage – one free from the restricted policies and red tape of a franchised brokerage. The goal was to offer their clientele a new level of service – without charging them more.


The strategy worked. Their sales more than doubled in their first year and Realty Way quickly established its place among the most highly respected and elite real estate brokerages in the Greater Toronto Area and in 2006 Realty Way Corporation was nominated for the Award of Excellence from the North York Chamber of Commerce.


What contributed to this success?


Says Tom Katirai, “We want to keep this at the level of a boutique, so that we can personally maintain the level of service our clientele are used to receiving. This is important, because this makes our clientele want to come back again and again.” Indeed some of their clients have bought or sold more than 10 homes with the company.


Another element of Realty Way’s success, is that they have, on a per agent basis, one of the largest advertising budgets in the industry and thus enabling them to aggressively market listings until they are sold.  


Realty way advertises in major publications including The Toronto Star and full-page color advertisements in publications such as The North York Mirror, as well as in many other community and ethnic newspapers.


They also have a dedicated graphic design team resulting in stunning feature sheets for every home, and a dedicated customer service team that makes sure every client need gets met. This is all a part of the couple’s original intention to produce a service oriented brokerage.
